Programmer's Blurb March 2013

By : metro

We proudly kick off March by hosting Canada’s longest-running documentary film festival: the 31st edition of the Global Visions Film Festival. Festivals allow film-lovers to feast on a high volume of quality films, however it seems like there’s never enough time to see them all. So in March, we’ll screen encores of four films from the festival, as well as opening the acclaimed documentaries Herman's House and West of Memphis.

Festivals also bring in guests, so make sure to check out Global Visions’ roster of visiting filmmakers. In March we partner with the Alberta Institute for American Studies to host Gerard Malanga, a major player at Andy Warhol’s Factory, who will present three of his films from the 1960s. Albertan Kathyrn Fasegha, with her emotionally charged drama Treacherous Heart, will be here on International Women’s Day. And to celebrate the AGA’s Alberta Biennial celebration, Edmonton’s Trevor Anderson and Kyle Armstrong will be on stage to discuss their latest films. Two other events spotlighting our vibrant Edmonton film community will be the Provincial Archives of Alberta’s Film is Dead, Long Live Film!, and FAVA FEST 3D: FAVA GALA.

Also in March, we’ll screen a re-mastered print of Roberto Rossellini’s The Flowers of St. Francis, we’ll partner with Edmonton Opera to screen Doctor Zhivago, and we’ll screen part three of the Studio Ghibli Tour. And at the end of the month, join us for our Saturday Morning All-You-Can-Eat Cereal Cartoon Party.

Enjoy the films,
Pete, Marsh & Jill
