Front of House Position Available
Metro Cinema is a non-profit society that programs films not normally shown in mainstream movie theatres, often partnering with community organizations to screen films and host festivals. We are committed to presenting independent, world, and Canadian cinema, as well as exhibiting a strong cinematheque and repertory stream.
We are currently seeking a highly-motivated, enthusiastic and reliable team player to join our front of house staff.
Job Description
Ensure the smooth operation of box office and concession activities at screenings and special events.
Coordinate and oversee the duties of the box office volunteer and train them as necessary.
Represent Metro Cinema when dealing with the public and our community partners.
Monitor sound and picture quality and theatre atmosphere (temperature, volume, etc) as appropriate at the beginning of each screening, letting projectionist know if there are any problems.
Changing the marquee nightly in various weather conditions.
Qualifications
An interest in independent, world, and/or Canadian film and film exhibition.
Previous cash handling and customer service a strong asset.
Comfort with heights.
Previous experience with the Metro Cinema an asset.
First Aid and ProServe certification an asset.
Hours of Work
There are two positions available.
One position offers 4-5 shifts per week, each of approx 6 hours, and
requires flexible availability.
The other position would include anywhere from 1-3 shifts per week.
Shifts for this position would depend on the theatre’s screening
schedule; some weeks there may be only one shift, while other weeks
they may be more shifts available.
The average shift is 6 hours long, working two screenings. Shifts typically run
from 5:30-11:00 pm or 12:30pm to 4:30pm.
