Latitude 55
Canada 1982, 102 min, Dir: John Juliani
Executive Producer: Fil Fraser

"When I hear the word culture, I reach for my revolver." Wanda works for the Department of Culture, setting funding for arts groups throughout Alberta. So when her car gets stuck in a blizzard, having her rescuer (a strange old Polish potato farmer) utter Hermann Goering's famous line at her is a little disconcerting. But Wanda and Josef are just getting to know each other and their relationship is going to get a lot stranger. Perhaps the most challenging of the four films, Latitude 55º; is a two-hander about an Albertan odd couple, stuck in a cabin during a blizzard. Directed by John Juliani (who played Jean-Baptiste in Marie-Anne), written by Sharon Riis, and starring Andrée Pelletier and August Schellenberg as the snowbound pair, Latitude 55º follows their relationship as it evolves from rescue, to friendship, to something much deeper. Nominated for 6 Genie awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Actress.
