All screenings @ Zeidler Hall in the Citadel Theatre, 9828 - 101A Ave
Russian & Chechen with English subtitles
A loose remake of 12 Angry Men (1957), 12 is set in a Russian school in the war-torn republic of Chechnya as a jury struggles to decide the fate of a Chechen teenager who allegedly killed his Russian stepfather. The collective deciding body is comprised of a racist taxi-driver, a suspicious doctor, a vacillating TV producer, a Holocaust survivor, a flamboyant musician, a cemetery manager, and others representing the fragmented society of modern day Russia. Amidst the battle between Chechens and Russians outside, a stray bird (a touch of New Age cinema) flies above the jurors' heads, alluding to the potential for peace and tolerance.
- May 14, 15, 16 & 17 (2009) @ 8:45pm
Citadel renovations are ongoing, so Metro Cinema continues to screen in the Rice Theatre, just down the hall from our normal room. Until we return to the Zeidler, screenings will continue to be from video, and not from 35mm.
Also, all Silver Screen passes are good for 3 months past their normal date of expiry, to thank you for your patience.
