For one chilly night in January, Metro Cinema will have a new designation – Outpost 31.
Join Metro and DEDsploitation Cinema as we present John Carpenter’s masterpiece in sci-fi terror, The Thing, in gorious 35mm. In Carpenter’s reimagining of the 1951 Howard Hawkes classic, members of an American scientific research outpost in Antarctica find themselves battling a parasitic alien organism capable of perfectly imitating its victims. Unsure of which team members have been assimilated, the scientists fall prey to paranoia, and begin to turn on each other. The remaining unaffected men must band together to stop the body-twisting, gore spurting alien entity from escaping the isolated outpost and reaching civilization. Although a flop at the box office, The Thing’s combination of winning script, bleak plot, and groundbreaking special effects makeup (courtesy of gore guru Rob Bottin), have made this film a rediscovered classic.
This event is restricted to patrons 18 years of age and over, due to the terms of the liquor license.
