The Best of Ottawa program showcases many of the outstanding films presented at the 2009 Ottawa International Animation Festival. The 2009 program includes such exceptional films as: David OReilly's award-winning sci-fi drama Please Say Something; the innovative and mesmerizing The Bellow's March, directed by Eric Dyer; Diego Maclean's haunting student film entitled The Art of Drowning; and the crowd-favourite travelogue Madagascar, A Journey Diary, by Bastien Dubois. Postalolio
Animated in traditional 2D pencil animation, traced onto blank, watercolour postcards, painted and mailed, every frame of Postalolio traveled through the international post. The animated journey of the main character is surrounded by postage stamps, cancellations, and handling marks.
Please Say Something
A troubled relationship between a Cat and Mouse, set in the distant future. Winner, Best Narrative Short at OIAF 09.
The Bellow's March
Anthropomorphized concertinas play out a Sisyphean cycle of destroy-create-destroy. Dyer bridges digital and physical processes in animation by creating, spinning, and shooting 18 hand-painted 3D printed sculptures (dubbed 'cinetropes') to make the film.
Chick
A humorous true-life story about male-female relations. Infatuation and its consequences are depicted in a ironic way: meeting a guy, dancing, having fun, a sexual act. Winner, HIT Entertainment GRAND PRIZE for Best Student Anim at OIAF 09.
The Black Dog's Progress
The Black Dog, unwanted by his owner, is thrown out into an unwelcoming neighbourhood. On his journey, he's corrupted by acts of violence and grows determined to live happily ever after back home.

Citadel renovations are ongoing, so Metro Cinema continues to screen in the Rice Theatre, just down the hall from our normal room. Until we return to the Zeidler, screenings will continue to be from video, and not from 35mm.
