A Three Count of historic and entertaining wrestling films from the vaults of the Provincial Archives of Alberta:

Superstars of Wrestling, Contact Sports TV, 1970s:

Edmonton’s Ray and Bud Osborne were three time winners of the National Wrestling Alliance International Tag Team Championship Title. See them in action along with other top wrestlers of the day such as Killer Kowalski, Luis Martinez, The Mongols, Sailor White, Dino Bravo and Kurt Von Hess.

Sports Clips and Wrestling at Ringside, CFRN-TV, 1958 and 1970:

A special local wrestling treat includes sports clips and the 1958 CFRN-TV program Wrestling at Ringside, featuring an innovative commercial for Cal’s Menswear filmed live from the ring.

Spontaneous Wrestling, 1928-1941:

We have compiled all of the “spontaneous wrestling” sequences from past Film Nights. Those who have been there know what we mean. For others it will be a new delight.

Event includes door prizes and introduction by the Provincial Archives of Alberta’s AV Archivist, Marlena Wyman and AV Conservator Terry O’Riordan. Live appearance by western Canadian pro-wrestlers including Vance Nevada aka Mr. Beefy Goodness.

Archives Film Night 2010 is dedicated to the memory of William “Bud” Osborne, who died June 21, 2009.
