Antichrist
Denmark/ Germany/ France/ Sweden/ Italy/ Poland 2009, 108 min, 35mm, Dir: Lars von Trier

“I would like to invite you for a tiny glimpse behind the curtain, a glimpse into the dark world of my imagination: into the nature of my fears, into the nature of Antichrist.” -Lars von Trier

One of the most controversial films of the year, Antichrist was the talk of the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, where Charlotte Gainsbourg took home the award for Best Actress. A grieving couple (Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg) retreat to ’Eden’, their isolated cabin in the woods, where they hope to repair their broken hearts and troubled marriage. But nature takes its course and things go from bad to worse.

"A powerfully made film. The performances by Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg are heroic and fearless. Von Trier's visual command is striking. And if you can think beyond what he shows to what he implies, its depths are frightening. IT IS A REAL FILM. Von Trier has reached me and shaken me." - Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

Special Events!
Please Note:
Citadel renovations are ongoing, so Metro Cinema continues to screen in the Rice Theatre, just down the hall from our normal room. Until we return to the Zeidler, screenings will continue to be from video, and not from 35mm.
Also, all Silver Screen passes are good for 3 months past their normal date of expiry, to thank you for your patience.
