The Room
USA 2003, 99 min, 35mm, Dir: Tommy Wiseau

“Dubbed ‘The Citizen Kane of Bad Movies’, Tommy Wiseau’s bizarro cinematic masterpiece will now be a regular monthly Friday Late Night Screening at Metro.

When the ubiquitously-liked Johnny first got together with Lisa everyone thought it was a match made in Heaven; her sensual sensuality, clairvoyant pizza-ordering skills, and willingness to have love made to her naval were everything the hapless hometown hero had been looking for. But lately Lisa’s been showing her true colours, and no one – not Mark (Johnny’s best friend), nor Denny (Johnny’s man-child protégé), nor even Peter (skip of the four-man short-catch team) – is safe from her diabolicalness. Wiseau, who wrote, directed, produced, and stared in the film, originally intended it as a drama, claiming it had “the passion of Tennesee Williams [sic].” However when the film was panned by critics who found it laughably bad Wiseau shifted gears, rebilling it a “black comedy” and insisting that all the humour was intentional.
