Batman: The Movie
USA 1966, 104 min, 35mm, Dir: Leslie H. Martison

With all the excitement surrounding Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film The Dark Knight Rises, we at Graphic Content decided to go back to the character’s roots for our inaugural outing. Starring the classic team of Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin, Batman: The Movie features crazy capers, unbelievable utility belt usage, and more venomous villains than you can shake a batarang at! When the “United Underworld,” a titanic team-up of villains that includes the Joker (Cesar Romero), the Penguin (Burgess Meredith), the Riddler (Frank Gorshin), and Catwoman (Lee Meriwether), get their hands upon an experimental dehydration machine, the Dynamic Duo must leap into action and save the day. During the course of their adventure Batman and Robin face devilish deathtraps, huge henchmen, and bloodthirsty sea life (luckily, Batman always packs his trusty Bat-shark repellent…). Batman: The Movie still remains an iconic time capsule of super-heroic history 45 years after its release. With a psychedelic colour palette, exaggerated acting, and a hilariously off-beat story, the film defined “camp” and superheroes for an entire generation of fans.
