Selected 2011 Best Film by the Argentian Film Critic Association and Festival favourite at both the Cannes & Toronto International Film Fests, Carancho is a tense thriller based on a real-life social problem in Argentina, where a fearsomely high rate of car accidents has created an industry devoted to scamming victims out of insurance money. Carancho means "vulture," and that's an apt description of the main character, Sosa (Ricardo Darín), a Buenos Aires lawyer who's lost his license and become an ambulance chaser. Sosa meets Luján, an exhausted physician as their paths continue to cross at crash sites and in emergency rooms. Together theirs is a dark love story trapped in a nightmarish world of corruption and scams.
