Metro Bizarro: Mad Max
Australia 1979, 88 min, 35mm, Dir: George Miller

In a dystopic future Australia, “Mad” Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson) is a member of the Main Force Patrol, a highway police unit tasked with maintaining order in the face of absolute chaos. With their souped-up “Interceptors”, Max and the MFP wage a constant war on the psychopaths that have seized control of the Australian roadways. When a motorcycle gang headed up by the vicious Toecutter attacks Max’s wife and children though, the young officer must decide just how far he will go to bring justice back to the roadways. Originally labelled “ugly and incoherent” by the New York Times, Mad Max has since been hailed as a brutal post-apocalyptic gem, a re-invention of classic Western genre tropes, not to mention one of the most financially successful films of all time.
