With America's bicentennial and presidential elections fast approaching, the rebellious Robert Altman turned his lens to Nashville as a microcosm of the nation to tell the story of a few days in the lives of dozens of characters as they converge on the capital city of Country Music for a political rally in support of Replacement Party candidate Hal Phillip Walker. Gathering an enormous cast, and perfecting the techniques of improvisation and overlapping dialogue he had mastered over a relentlessly prolific half-decade, Nashville stands as the high-point of Altman's career and one of the great portraits of American life.
