When down on his luck puppeteer Craig Schwartz (John Cusack) takes a job as a filing clerk on the seven-and-a-halfth floor of the Mertin Flemmer building, he discovers a hidden portal that takes him into the mind of actor John Malkovich for about fifteen minutes at a time. Pretty soon Craig’s co-worker Maxine is charging admission, his wife Lotte is using it to fuel a sexual awakening, and Malkovich is starting to notice that something is up. Music-video mastermind Spike Jonze made his directorial debut with this absurdly original Charlie Kaufman script.

FILM REVIEW "the lasting thrill of Being John Malkovich is its warped, wild ride along the circuits and currents of a deviously plotting mind." Brian Gibson -VUE Weekly
