you don’t have to be Jewish to enjoy the Edmonton Jewish Film Festival (EJFF), an initiative of the Jewish Federation of Edmonton that has been in operation for almost 25 years. Metro Cinema and EJFF presents a special Pride Month screening.

A perky group of young Israelis are the underdogs in an international singing contest in this kitschy, technicolor, musical comedy. To escape daily stresses, the Tel Aviv neighbours congregate to watch universong, a spoof of the televised Eurovision song contests of the 1970s. When the group spontaneously submits its own cheesy tune, they’re surprised when they’re chosen to represent Israel in the Paris finals. Facing creative pressures from the comically inept Israel Broadcasting Authority, the group is forced to choose between friendship and fame.
