Todd Babiak presents Eastern Promises
USA/ Canada/ UK 2007, 100 min, Dir: David Cronenberg

Nikolai Luzhin is a driver for one of London's most notorious organized crime families. But his existence is jarred once he crosses paths with Anna Khitrova, a midwife who is deeply affected by a young teenager who died while giving birth. Anna resolves to try and trace the baby's lineage, and accidentally unleashes the full fury of the family. Several lives hang in the balance as a chain of murder, deceit and retribution unfolds.

Todd Babiak’s bestselling 2013 novel, Come Barbarians, was a departure from his first four novels - all variations on romantic comedies. Come Barbarians is a moody and sometimes violent thriller set in France. He launches the sequel, Son of France, here at Metro Cinema with a short but lively discussion of the novels, wine and beer and cheese, and a screening of another moody and sometimes violent Canadian thriller set across the Atlantic: the unforgettable Eastern Promises by David Cronenberg.

Book launch and reading at 6:30PM. Film at 7PM.
