Beautiful blonde housewife Phyllis plots with insurance salesman Walter to arrange her husband’s murder and cash in on a valuable policy – with a double indemnity clause. Double Indemnity has been called “an undiluted study in greed, cunning and vindictiveness” and is a classic of the film noir genre. It was nominated for seven Academy Awards, and the alluring, conniving Phyllis firmly established the image of the femme fatale in modern cinema.
There will be a short talk before the film about the history of the femme fatale, and the real-life murder that inspired the story.
