The Mask You Live In is a documentary following the lives of young men as they negotiate strict expectations of manhood. These expectations include the rejection of emotions and genuine relationships, which correlate to men’s higher rates of mental illness, suicide, and violent crime. The Mask You Live In ultimately demonstrates the need to raise a healthier generation of boys and young men, and how this could be achieved.

Moderated by Ryan Jespersen, there will be a panel discussion following the screening. Panelists are:

David Shepherd, MLA for Edmonton-Centre
Ryan King, Edmonton Eskimo
Dr. David Long, King’s University
Philip Campiou, Indigenous Elder
Kala Sritharan, Activist

Men Edmonton (ME), in cooperation with the City of Edmonton, bring together community leaders to explore the intersections of masculinity, mental-health, gender-based violence, and isolation. ME is a volunteer-led grassroots organization working to improve the health and wellbeing of male identifying persons and those connected to them by addressing issues related to men’s wellbeing, health, relationships, and male-perpetrated forms of violence.
