Much of Fleming's work focuses on themes of family, history and memory - and, as many a Fleming film illustrates, she's been blessed with a particularly fascinating family tree. The often-haunting shorts assembled here are both mementos and reminders of the bonds that remain eternal. Pioneers of X-Ray Technology: A Film About Grandpa A personal, experimental portrait of Fleming's grandfather, mixing interviews, home movies, and dreamy impressionistic visuals. Waving Fleming's debut film is a poetic, intensely personal reflection on the death of her grandmother. Impressionistic memories, in voice-over, are set to optically manipulated images of a woman (Fleming) submerged in water. Memorable and moving. The Day My Grandfather Spied on Vladimir Ashkenzay Harking back to the more experimental mode of her early work, Fleming manipulates old home movie footage to portray a day in the life of her extended family. La Fabula Della Bella Familia Auf du World A cinematic tango in which a polyglot clan reacts to the death of the family matriarch, rendered in rich, ravishing 16mm cinematography.
