Prairie Tales 8
Canada 2006, 85 min, Beta SP, Dir: Various

Metro is proud to present the Edmonton premiere of Prairie Tales 8, our annual touring collection of Alberta short film and video. This year's program begins with a sterile view of a chillingly possible future in Jonathan Joffe's award-winning sci-fi film Cost of Living, followed by Don Best's Damaged Goods, a beautiful animation on obsessive behaviour. Jaro Malanowski introduces us to the proud inhabitants of rural Alberta in Hot Summer Road Trip, which segues into the (sub)urban angst of Scott Roger's Hell's Half Acre, while Trevor Anderson grounds us with a centered take on public intimacy in Rugburn. Steven Hope creates Twin Fangs Film, a highly stylized music video that flows nicely into Brandon Jan Blommaert's more thematically formal space in venturex. Shelaine Sparrow looks at the politics of food (and the food of politics) in Eat This!, and Ode to Walking by Kay Burns is about her lack of need for speed. aAron Munson gives us a hands-on approach to nature in not so natural and Dad, Don't Be Mad marks Dayna McLeod as a promising comedic filmmaker with her self-aware footage of her RCMP father arresting her as a young offender. Thanks to tour coordinator Paul Williams, and to curators Mari Sasano, Richard Reeves, Jerry White and Anthea Black.

Special Events!
Please Note:
Citadel renovations are ongoing, so Metro Cinema continues to screen in the Rice Theatre, just down the hall from our normal room. Until we return to the Zeidler, screenings will continue to be from video, and not from 35mm.
Also, all Silver Screen passes are good for 3 months past their normal date of expiry, to thank you for your patience.
